The Civil Disobedience in Slovenia

1st of March 2021 was a day Slovenia inscribed to a World-map of civil disobedience. The people’s action was announced a couple of days before with the determined and fiery speech of the leader, Aleksander Rimele. In attention not to withhold all the facts, it’s also true that Rimele swore and dissed the corona policy and the Slovenian government authority (the current one and at the same time, the authority since declared independence of the state in 1991) like a rapper or perhaps a sailor. In case the authority would want to stick the corona test through his nose deep into his head or vaccinate him he also physically threatened to it. Otherwise, he called for a general collaboration between protesters, different job sectors, police, and the army. In this sense, he hinted that protesters would fight in court against potential fines and corona policy.

“You will be persecuted in Hague for crimes against humanity,” Rimele addressed the Slovenian authority. “Resign.”

Rimele claimed that corona policy is genocidal and said that nationwide, people have had enough and will rise many in numbers. He remembered the genocide in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and stated it was a consequence of Slovenian politics in the 1990s. In this context, he also addressed the Muslim community and emphasised religious freedom in terms of democracy.

The Civil Disobedience, 1st of March 2021

According to Rimele, there were 40 bars opened across the country. The live-stream was from a pub, Pri Andreju, in Ptuj, the country’s north-east part. People were sitting in the sun, drinking, dancing to live music, and socialising.

After a while, the police came and listed the participants. During the procedure, activists loudly criticised the state and covid policy. After the listing part, a policeman demanded the crowd spread and remarked that “the whole thing looks like a civil disobedience.” To what an activist confidently answered: “It is a civil disobedience.”

The movement raised some noise, and it looks like even the mainstream media will give this theme some of the airtime.
